Sarah and Scott Sykes
info@sykesfuneralservice.com Scott is the son of the late Faris and Emma Ruth Sykes of Enfield, North Carolina. His father was a funeral director and embalmer and he has devoted his life to carrying on those same traditions. He graduated high school from Enfield Academy in 1983 and then attended Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC. Scott completed his funeral service education at Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta, Georgia graduating in 1985. Scott has been an active funeral director and embalmer since that time.
Sarah is the daughter of Jack and Pat Winslow of Scotland Neck, North Carolina. She graduated high school from Hobgood Academy in 1985 and graduated with a BS degree in General Home Economics from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1989. Sarah was an office manager for fifteen years with her family's farming and turfgrass business,she has been a teacher at Hobgood Academy for the past three years while pursuing her Funeral Director's degree from FayettevilleTechnical Community College. Sarah completed the Funeral Director's program in July of 2008. She has been active with Sykes Funeral Service from the beginning.
Scott and Sarah were married in 1989 and have two children,Sarah Gregory and John Colby. They purchased the Rich Square location in 2002 and the Scotland Neck location in 2007. Scott and Sarah are devoted to their family, friends, church, and community.

Walter Sykes - Funeral Service Assistant
Walter Sykes is a native of Haw River, NC. He graduated from Chowan College in 1955 and was married to the late Rebecca Jean Sykes. They had one son Walter “Mac” Sykes, Jr. who is married to Tracy Whitley. Walter has two beautiful grandchildren; Rebecca C. and Cameron W. Sykes.
Walter is a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the United States Air Force. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge #418. He is a member of Zion Methodist Church where he is the Chairman of the Administrative Council. Walter retired from Hercules, Inc. in 1989 after thirty-three years of dedicated service. He has been affiliated with the funeral industry since 1989 serving with Sykes Funeral Service since 2002.

Paige Bryant - Office Assistant
Paige is a native of Rich Square, NC. She is married to Jackie Bryant. They have three sons; Jason Bryant and his wife Kathy of Woodland, Keith Bryant and his wife Katherine of Scotland Neck and Eric Bryant of Rich Square, NC. Paige has four grandchildren, Kathryn Paige, Jake, Jackson and Mary Hanna. She and Jackie are members of the Rich Square Baptist Church.
Paige enjoys cooking, reading and painting. She loves collecting items from flea markets which she incorporates into interior decorating.
Paige has been affiliated with Sykes Funeral Service since 2002.

Linwood Bryant - Funeral Service Assistant
Linwood is a native of Rich Square, NC. He is married to Evelyn Pope of Seaboard, NC. They have two children; a daughter Mischelle B. Hayman and her husband Todd of Kill Devil Hills, NC, a son Lin Bryant, Jr. and his wife Nicole of Wilson, NC and has five grandchildren; Rachel, Christian, Caitlin and Casey Hayman and Eliza Paige Bryant. He is the son of Carroll Bryant and the late Hazel Bryant.
He is an Army Veteran and served in Vietnam. Linwood is a Mason 32nd degree. Linwood is a member of the Rich Square United Methodist Church, and is currently serving as a town of Rich Square Commissioner. He is a retired Postmaster with the United States Postal Service.
Linwood has been affiliated with Sykes Funeral Service since 2002.

Sharon T. Burden - Funeral Service Assistant
Student of Funeral Directing
Sharon is a native of Aulander, NC. She is married to Chris Burden and they have two children; Justin and Tyler Burden. She is the daughter of Linda and Bobby Terry of Aulander. Sharon and her family are members of the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church in Aulander. Sharon is the owner and operator of the Aulander Florist which she started in 1994.
Sharon is currently enrolled at Fayetteville Technical Community College. She will graduate in May of 2009 with her Funeral Director’s Diploma. Sharon is truly dedicated to serving the community and surrounding areas.
Sharon has been affiliated with Sykes Funeral Service since 2002.

Don Leggett - Funeral Service Assistant
Don is a native of Aulander, NC. He graduated from Aulander High School. He is married to Mary Harrington Leggett. They have three sons; Donny Leggett, Jr. and his wife Wendy of Raleigh, NC, Al Leggett and his wife Brett of Conway, NC and Steve Leggett and his wife Carol of Woodland, NC. Don has seven wonderful grandchildren.
Don is a member of the Rich Square Baptist Church where he is a deacon. He has served on many other committees at the church and is currently serving on the History Committee. He has served as an usher for the church for many years. Don served as Scout Master for ten years in Rich Square. He was a member, and vice president of the Rich Square Jaycees. He served on the Rich Square Volunteer Rescue Squad for twelve years. Don retired from Roanoke Electric in 2000 following thirty-four years of dedicated service.
Don has been affiliated with Sykes Funeral Service since 2004.

Christine E. Moore - Funeral Director
Christine is the daughter of Frank and Lizzie Hargrove Moore. She is one of the three surviving children of 15 children born and raised in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. She graduated from Scotland Neck High School and was licensed as a funeral director in 1966. She is a member of Dawson Baptist Church.
After fourty-two years in the funeral service industry, Christine is still serving the public. She says she doesn't have any hobbies, she loves her work.
Christine joined the family of Sykes Funeral Service when Scott and Sarah purchased the Scotland Neck location in 2007.
